Shipyard Competent Person (SCP)

OSHA-Compliant Shipyard Competent Person Training in Seattle

NPFVOA's Shipyard Competent Person (SCP) training is a comprehensive 3-day, 24-hour course that qualifies maritime professionals to assess and ensure safe working conditions at shipyards and vessel repair facilities. Taught by an NFPA certified marine chemist, this course meets all requirements of 29 CFR 1915.7 and prepares you to determine whether confined spaces are safe for entry and hot work operations.

Held at Seattle Fishermen's Terminal, this hands-on training is essential for shipyard supervisors, marine contractors, vessel maintenance personnel, commercial fishing vessel operators, and anyone responsible for shipyard safety compliance throughout the Pacific Northwest and Alaska.

In order to be recognized as a qualified SCP to work on US Navy vessels one must successfully complete an initial 3-day course and receive annual 1-day refresher classes taught by an NFPA certified marine chemist.
