STCW Advanced Fire Fighting Refresher

Length: 2 Days Prerequisite: A successfully completed USCG approved Advanced Firefighting course. For Mariners renewing their credentials that DO NOT have 360+ days of sea service in the last 5 years. Course Description The two-day (16-hour) Advanced Firefighting Refresher course, also called an AFF Refresher course, is intended to provide refresher training for personnel who will command firefighting efforts on board the vessel. The course is designed to fulfill the training requirements of the 2010 Amendments to the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Code, as outlined in CG-CVC Policy Letter No. 12-07. This STCW Refresher course is for mariners who have NOT had 360 Days of sea time within the last five years. **This course is lecture based and does not include live firefighting exercises. Are you not sure which course is needed to renew your license? Revalidations (REVS) - For Mariners with 360+ days in the last 5 years. Will need to take: BT-REV (2 Day). Also, if you have an Advanced Firefighting Endorsement, you will need FF-ADV-REV (1 Day). This is a separate registration. Refreshers (REFS) - For Mariners without 360+ days in the last 5 years. Will need to take: BT-REF (3 Day). If you have an Advanced Firefighting Endorsement, you will need FF-ADV-REF (2 Day). If you have a Proficiency in Survival Craft Endorsement, you will need PSC-REF (2 Day). And a Radar Renewal These are separate registrations. Prerequisites If you’re a mariner with a certification in Advanced Firefighting, you are qualified to take this course. It’s important for you and all members of the crew to be as safe as possible aboard your vessel. This is why, even if you’ve been certified before, it’s important to build your confidence and make sure you understand the necessary procedures. Other prerequisites include STCW qualifications and USCG entry-level or higher documents. If you had an Advanced Firefighting certification in the past and need to have it renewed, you can take this course. Due to the above goals, our AFF refresher course focuses on exercises that expand your skill set and confidence in these areas. Advanced Firefighting Refresher Class Requirements The requirements for our Advanced Firefighting Refresher class include the successful completion of an Advanced Firefighting course that the United States Coast Guard (USCG) approves. Our class will provide you with the necessary experience and knowledge to submit an application for renewal with the USCG. To renew your STCW Advanced Firefighting license with the USCG, you will need to provide proof of the following:

• U.S. citizenship
• Medical certificate
• Merchant Marine Licensing and Documentation (MMLD)

If you are not a U.S. citizen, you may supplement the requirement with a valid Merchant Mariner Credential (MMC).
